Las Vegas…did it just happen?

The strip before 1954

A lot of planning has gone into creating one of the world’s favorite destinations. Look at how it changed from 1954 to 2011

Infrastructure is a term architects, engineers, and urban planners use to describe essential facilities for cities and communities. Infrastructure includes roads, bridges, mass-transit systems, electrical lines, water lines, sewers, and fire and police stations.

Why is Infrastructure Important? Roads, bridges, railroads, mass-transit systems, dams, reservoirs, and utilities are essential to the economic vitality of our businesses and communities. If done right it will help in conservation of fuel and other natural resources, provide comfort and safety of residents and visitors. Failed Levee in New Orleans 2008

When you build your city in Sims and on your model, YOU MUST consider the placement of everything! I am sure the engineers, city planners and architects that designed Las Vegas in the 50s would have planned the city differently if they would have known we would have a city like we do today. YOUR JOB IS TO THINK OF ALL POSSIBILITIES for your city.

Various areas to consider in infrastructure

Roads In the 1954 picture of the Las Vegas strip, one of the first things you notice is the road. Why do we need roads? It needs to accommodate (fit) the amount of people who are going to use it. Would the road of 1954 still be usable today?

1954 shot further down strip Notice the two lanes on each side with center divide.

The Sands is gone and the Venetian, etc is in it’s place A little different, right?

OOPS!

Will it be outdated in 20 years? Is it big enough? Is it sound enough? Does the size fit the location: residential, business, industry. Is it built to last…or will it sink? What kind of transportation do you need for your city based on the year of your FUTURE city?

Ha Ha, never forget to laugh Remember this! You don’t want to be all over the place!

And don’t forget: pathways

Airports are another way to import and export commercial goods. They also bring in tourists and others from other cities and countries With proper authorities, they provide security to an area.

Think it through!

What you should consider when thinking about airports. -Safety -Comfort -Need -Population -Does it fit with the rest of your infrastructure? -What kind of transportation do you need for your city based on the year of your FUTURE city?

Allow entrance via the sea Import and export goods to an area Allow for tourists increasing money for your city to make improvements Allows for recreational activities

Harbors

Things to consider with harbors! Severe weather can effect the business/homes near by. What do you want next to a harbor? Is it deep and wide enough for your ships? Is there sufficient and adequate docking? Do you have storage and means to move the supplies delivered and being shipped?

Some problems of harbors

Las Vegas is a great example of a big city that didn’t think about the future. They built without thinking about mass transit. Now, it is nearly impossible for them to do it, the only option they had was this monorail.

Pollution Population Make sure you can add it in. One for people, one for goods Is it by residential and commercial?

How do you power up? Lights, computers, air conditioning, you name it, it needs power. How do we get energy?

Energy sources

When thinking about what type of energy you want for you city consider the following: Pollution Power fluctuations Back up Needs Self sufficiency

Examples of power

Water Power Telephone Internet Utilities need to be provided to: homes, schools, industry and commercial. Usually by pipe, wire, satellite or microwave

Today you find it in three ways: Roadways, poles or dishes How will you do it?

A mind once stretched by a new idea never regains its original dimensions. - Anonymous

To be or not to be…here are some ideas to THINK about: Traditional Microchip Virtual NONE Combination All in one Hands on

Pictures of today education You get to decide how your citizens will learn!

Healthcare is for everyone in your city: from before birth until they die. How will you take care of their needs?

Healthcare Hospitals Clinics Check out on youtube: Second health Polyclinic tour…this is an idea of future of health care Microchip with all medical Scanning…you decide How do your citizens use/pay for it?

Pictures Healthcare

Social Infrastructure This is the fun part of your city: Parks Sports Complexes Amusement Parks Plays / Concerts Hiking Pools YOU name it….

THINK:

Having Fun… is the best part of your city!

Housing Housing is the most important to the well being of your citizens. After all, “Home is home, be it ever so humble” ProverbHome is home, be it ever so humble

Think, things to consider for housing: Is your city boxed in by island, dome, ship? Comfortable for your citizens? Close to education, work? If not, is it close to transportation? Practical…go out of your box!

Be futuristic…go outside the box!

Infrastructure makes your life smooth!

Future Cities takes you out of the box and it makes you think it through.

What was before is in the PAST, what you see is the NOW, what you dream is your FUTURE YOU DECIDE!
