Things to Remember About Descriptive Writing Be specific, not vague. Example: The clown wears a fluffy, two-tone nylon costume. Elaborate (add more details to expand on what your describing). Example: Not yellow hair, but short yellow hair, made of yarn, covers its ears but is parted above the eyes.

Things to Remember About Descriptive Writing Use vivid vocabulary (strong nouns, verbs, and adjectives). Example: …its broad grin disappears into the wide, white ruffle … Include details that relate to your five senses. Example: It had peanut butter frosting which melted in your mouth.
