Dear Students: I’m excited to be your English teacher this year Dear Students: I’m excited to be your English teacher this year. As learned a little bit about you over the last couple of days, I would like to introduce myself a little bit more. I studied at San Francisco State Univerity, and I received my Master’s in Education at UCLA. This will be my second year teaching at Leuzinger. We will be diving into some difficult texts this year, but you will have a lot of support. I hope you are ready to work as hard as I am and to improve your literacy and critical thinking skills. I’m excited to be apart of the MCA academy and I can’t wait to share my love multimedia arts and film with all of you! I appreciate how the academy gives students a chance to explore various careers within digital media, film and photography. I am a huge fan of film, and I know the name of actors who were famous long before I was born. The love of film came naturally for me, but I had to learn how to appreciate literature; and I did not fully enjoy reading until I was in college! Don’t get me wrong, I did read a lot before college but was unable to grasp how books related to my own life. The first book I came to love was She’s Come Undone by Wally Lamb. I could relate with the struggles of this woman with regards to trauma, family drama and just growing up. Some of my other favorite authors are James Baldwin, Gabriela Garcia Marquez and Maya Angelou. This year, I am working on having a work life balance and becoming an excellent friend, family member and teacher. Last year I was teaching completing my Masters and clearing my credential—I had a full plate, to say the least. This year I have the opportunity to focus on my life and teaching, and I would like to take the time to improve in both of these areas. I have a lot of support from my fellow colleagues, family, and friends; and with God’s help, I hope to accomplish my goals. Sincerely, Ms. Newton
