Workshop on Facilitation of climate policy in CEE and Turkey for the post 2012 period BudapestMarch , Workshop on Facilitation of climate policy in CEE and Turkey for the post 2012 period Budapest, March , Energy Sector in Hungary Dr. László Molnár director EnerKonz Bt

In the last 14 years: -- GDP is rapidly growing, -- TPES is stable, Energy intensity has decreased by 30% since Reasons for the rapid growth of TPES in : 1. Wood-fired power stations with lower efficiency replaced gas-fired ones 2. Decrease of "gasoline tourism" (more balanced price levels in neighbouring countries) 3. Rapidly increasing non-energy use (for export) of petroleum and natural gas TPES in 2007: 1120,0 PJ

Primary Energy Use in Hungary Primary Energy Use in Hungary Natural Gas is dominating, Renewable: 4,3% Source: Energy Centre 28 Mtoe In 2007: 1120,0 PJ

Natural Gas Supply in Hungary The gap is widening between the domestic consumption and production Natural gas consumption Growing import-dependency Forrás: IEA

Gas-import dependency on Gazprom Gas-import dependency on Gazprom The Hungarian dependency is not unique Source: Gazprom

Natural gas consumption in the EU, toe/capita The Hungarian consumption is a bit above average Source: EU

Main Gas Pipelines in Europe Existing and Proposed Pipelines Recently the Hungarian government signed a contract with Gasprom to take part in the construction of the South Stream pipeline

Share of Renewables in the EU in the primary energy balance in 2005 Many developed countries are behind Hungary (eg. Germany, Holland, Ireland, UK, Belgium). Hungarian target for 2020: 13% Source: EU

Energy-Mix in the Past and in the Future Fossile energies are dominating the future Coal Oil Gas Nukl. En. Renewable FactFuture Source: IEA

Gross consumption in 2007: 41,1 TWh Details: Partly supported by mandatory takeover (sum of the net generation and the import balance) Gross consumption grew in 2007 by~2% The net domestic generation grew in 2007 by ~12% Structure of the Hungarian Electricity Supply

Energy-Mix of the Hungarian Power Stations
