TOOLS AND DATABASES Searching on the Surface and “Deep Web”

Google Web Search Perform an Advanced Search from the front page: Google Reverse Image Search: Find sources for images online. Find an image in a variety of sizes. Find sources for images saved on your hard drive. Narrow down image search with search tools.

Google Tools Set institution in Settings under Library Links. Create a log in to save articles, collect citations. Make a profile to manage your own publications, too! Use metrics to gauge popularity of publications in specific fields. Advanced search (click arrow in right side) Does NOT use truncation. – Can use OR for variant forms. Restrict by domain (e.g., site:.edu) or file type (e.g., file:pdf).

Google Tools (cont). Search for books, e-books, or magazines. Narrow down with search tools. “Find in a library” Find all sellers, including Google Play. Use “my library” to save books and citations. Use Advanced Search:

Group Activity - Keyword Searching Your group has been assigned to do a group presentation for a Public Speaking class about various topics. Answer the questions on the worksheet as prompted. We will then take a 10 minute break and then discuss our findings as a class.
