Sue Godsell November 2014

Why use the Library’s resources (and not Google or Wikipedia)? We have many online reference works (dictionaries, encyclopedias, etc) – don’t just use Wikipedia! The databases and journals we subscribe to are reputable ones Articles are mostly peer-reviewed (read and approved by other academics) before publication The search interfaces are more advanced than Google and help you get targeted results The pdfs you find on Google Scholar may not be the final published versions.

PsycInfo and PsycArticles PsycInfo is our main Psychology resource for journal articles, also covers some books and book chapters Contains the details of articles from 2,500 international peer-reviewed journals back to 1887 Has links through to the full text of ejournals that we subscribe to PsycArticles is a full text sub-set covering around 90 journals – can be searched separately

Academic Search Complete Multidisciplinary database which contains a lot of full text articles Can be searched simultaneously with PsycInfo/PsycArticles

ScienceDirect Over 100 full text psychology journals Good for cognitive and neuroscience subjects

How do I access the Library’s resources? Go to the Library web site www.bbk.ac.uk/libwww.bbk.ac.uk/lib You’ll see the search box for the catalogue and the quick ejournals look-up on the home page Click on Library Resources by Subject and choose Psychological Sciences
