3 Faculty Services 4 Research Classes for your Students –One 50 minute session designed specifically for your assignments –Identifying informational needs Assignment Type Primary sources or Secondary sources Scholarly journals or Popular Magazines, newspapers, etc. Determining key concepts and focusing research

4 Faculty Services –Finding information Using the library catalog to search for books (with examples) Using the library databases for journal articles and online reference resources. (with examples) –Search terms, Boolean searching, refining or expanding searches, etc. Using Internet resources when applicable

6 Faculty Services 4 Individual Research Assistance –Using Library catalog or databases If you are new, please don’t forget to get a library card with your 14 digit barcode. You will need this and a PIN you create at Circulation Desk to access the databases or to put books on hold, check your library account, etc.

7 Faculty Services –Finding materials based on citations or limited memory –Copyright Guidance * *I am not an Attorney, but I have researched and attended several trainings in copyright and academic use.

8 Faculty Services 4 Reserve Materials –Items you want to make available to your class. –Placed in Reserve for your class only with limited circulation (2 hours or overnight.) –Library owned items or your own personal copy. –I may need your assistance in clearing out Reserve shelves.

9 Collaborating with Faculty 4 Collection Development –You as instructors are the best guides for ordering library materials. –Books and DVDs can be requested at any time Should not be textbooks that you use for class –Journals need to be ordered during Summer months for next calendar year Journals may be available full text via a database

10 Collaborating with Faculty –Weeding of materials! Important and often neglected aspect of collection development. Please browse shelves in your area or do searches in catalog to see what is outdated, irrelevant, non- academic, etc.

11 What’s New 4 Redesign of Edison Library Web Page –If you have used the webpage before, some things have been moved or deleted. 4 E-Books and Audio books –Both can be played on computer or exported to portable devices.

12 What’s New 4 New Research Tools –Edison’s Top Ten Databases As determined by Edison Librarians. The resources we find most useful for most research –Databases By Subject This was created specifically by Edison Librarians and can be viewed by anyone. Once you click on the link to the database, you will be asked to log in. 4 Expanded Library Hours –We will be open on Saturdays from 9 AM – 2 PM for Fall and Spring semesters http://www.edison.edu/learningresources/index.shtml
