Instruments

Strings Commonly made of wood and strings (usually four). Played by drawing a bow across the strings or plucking the strings. Examples: violin, viola, cello, and bass.

Violin & Cello

Woodwinds Played by blowing into them and creating notes with the fingers on keys that cover holes in the instrument. They can be made of wood or metal. Ex: Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, and Bassoon.

Flute & Oboe

Brass Instruments are made of metal. Played by “buzzing” the lips on the mouthpiece; the sound is adjusted with a slide or valves. Ex: Trumpet, French Horn, Trombone, and Tuba.

Trumpet & Tuba

Percussion Anything not otherwise classified. Mostly played by hitting the instrument with drumsticks or beaters. Ex: Drums, Cymbals, Bells, Wood Blocks and Whistles.
