LAST WORDS I only regret I didn’t hang Henry Clay and I didn’t kill John Calhoun

JACKSONS ELECTION  People loved or hated Jackson, which led to the division of the Democratic- Republicans. Jackson led the Democrats, who represented farmers, workers, and the poor. Republicans, they said, represented the rich and upper class

JACKSONIAN DEMOCRACY  Jackson’s election was a victory for the idea that the common people should control their government. This became known as Jacksonian Democracy

JACKSON AND VOTING  Jackson’s election and inauguration opened up politics to the average person. Voting rights were extended to all white men (but still not African Americans, Native Americans, or women)

JACKSON INAUGURATION TALKING HEADS ACTIVITY  Silently, answer the three questions provided as if you were talking with a Democrat and a Republican  Remember, this is a time period activity, so write as if you were in 1828, not current times
