Presentation transcript:

 Print your outline  Be sure to save a copy in Word  If you would like to work in Google Docs it is a good idea to have TWO copies  The original outline  The one you are manipulating into your paper

 Remember, all Direct Quotes, Paraphrases, and Summaries must be cited  These citations are called Parenthetical References  Other ways to say Parenthetical References  Internal Documentation  In-text Citations  In-text References  In-line Citations

 Works Cited section of Noodletools  Far right side  Click on “In text reference”

 Look at your outline  For each note card in your outline, write the in-text reference needed

 What your outline includes:  General topic of each paragraph  Sub points/main ideas stated as phrases  All researched supports  In-text references  What your outline is missing:  Topic Sentence  Sub points/main ideas in complete sentences  Sandwiches for your facts  Concluding sentence

 Three colors of highlighters  Topic and concluding sentences  Sub points/main ideas  Supports/note cards

 Notice how the in-text references are used  For each support in the paper, identify it as a:  DQ = Direct Quote  P/S = Paraphrase/Summary

 It is easy to blend summaries and paraphrases into your paper  It is much harder to blend a direct quote  DIRECT QUOTES CAN NEVER BE ALL BY THEMSELVES!!!!  They get lonely!!!!!  So they need a SANDWICH to keep them company!!!!!

 Sandwiching is a method of incorporating and blending quotes into your writing  Think of a quote as part of a sandwich  A sandwich needs BREAD and MEAT  Your words are the BREAD  The quote is the MEAT

 You already have the meat of your sandwiches – all the note cards you have made

 Your words are the bread of the sandwich  The top piece of bread is your LEAD IN to the quote  The bottom piece of bread is your COMMENTARY on the quote  Look at some examples in the sample body paragraph  Put a square around the LEAD IN  Put a squiggly line under the COMMENTARY

 Using the sample body paragraph and your outline as a guide, you will now start drafting your three body paragraphs  This is the first time you are doing a research project – do your best!!!!!  But, also know that I am not expecting perfection!

 Block Day – begin drafting body paragraphs  Friday - continue drafting body paragraphs  Monday - continue drafting body paragraphs  Tuesday – come to class with draft of body paragraphs completed and in an electronic version that you can access at school  Create turnitin.com account  Submit paper to turnitin.com  Print paper and bring on Block Day
