Hardware is a physical part of the system that you can pick up and move. There are two types of hardware, external and internal. External Hardware – These are outside the computer case. Internal Hardware – These are inside the computer system. Peripherals – this is any hardware device which connects to the computer and is controlled by the CPU. For example the monitor and keyboard are peripherals.

The list of external hardware is: keyboard, mouse, microphone, printer, monitor, speaker. There are others but these are just standard bits of external hardware.

Some pieces of internal hardware are: sound card, motherboard, RAM, fan, hard disk, CPU, These are inside the computer. Some of the hardware used in hospitals is file sharing and system security and backups

Software are the instructions that computers carry out for that specific task. Software are all computer programmes lad like including libraries and scripts. It is stored in computer memory and cannot be touched. It is in machine language specific to an individual processor. The language is in binary.

An operating system is a collection of software that manages computer hardware and provides common services for computer programs. Application programs usually require an operating system to work. Some types of operating system are Real – time, multi user, and distributed. They all have their different qualities.
