A possessive noun is a noun that shows ownership of someone or something.

These girls own their dresses.

The girls’ dresses are very pretty. Since the noun girls ends in an s, all you have to do is put an apostrophe at the end.

These dogs have a lot of black spots.

The ______ black spots are very cute. dogs’ How can you adjust the noun dogs to complete the sentence properly?

Some nouns show they are plural without ending in s. Fish Sheep Children Geese

This book belongs to the children.

I wonder what the children’s book is about? Since the word children doesn’t end in s, I added an apostrophe and an s to the end of the word to show possession.

There are a lot of sheep in the pasture.
