2 Let’s Get Started! Today we are going to explore possessive nouns!
When working with possessive nouns we must remember to: Circle the noun that owns the object. Check to see if the noun is singular or plural. Add an apostrophe to the end of a plural noun if it ends in s. Add an apostrophe and an s if the plural noun does not already end in s.

3 What is a Possessive Noun?
A possessive noun is a noun that shows ownership of someone or something.

4 Plural Nouns Plural means more than one. Puppies Kittens Bunnies

5 Plural Nouns These girls own their dresses.

6 Plural Possessives The girls’ dresses are very pretty.
Since the noun girls ends in an s, all you have to do is put an apostrophe at the end.

7 Plural Nouns These dogs have a lot of black spots.

8 How can you adjust the noun dogs to complete the sentence properly?
Plural Possessives dogs’ The ______ black spots are very cute. How can you adjust the noun dogs to complete the sentence properly?

9 Other Plural Nouns Some nouns show they are plural without ending in s. Fish Sheep Children Geese

10 Plural Possessives This book belongs to the children.

11 Plural Possessives I wonder what the children’s book is about?
Since the word children doesn’t end in s, I added an apostrophe and an s to the end of the word to show possession.

12 Plural Possessives There are a lot of sheep in the pasture.
