1. Profile of Progress towards meeting the Teachers’ Standards p SSE1 handbook Covers the whole school-based training period Trainee takes responsibility to self-assess progress against all standards and indicate grades Mentor’s assessment and discussion with trainee Targets, strengths and distinctiveness

2. School based assessment points Foundation phase Assessment of trainee’s personal & professional conduct Confirmation of trainee demonstrating appropriate standards Development phase Part 1 Teaching Part 2 Personal and Professional conduct - Weeks 1- 3 Progress for a trainee at interim stage of SSE1 - Weeks Progress for trainee at end of SSE1

3. Role of Trainee in assessment Foundation phase At end of phase : Trainees required to comment on progression towards meeting Teachers’ Standards. Agree grade & evidence with mentor. Development phase Trainee takes responsibility to self-assess progress against all standards and indicate grades. Interim stage (week 3): Discuss and agree grades with mentor End of SSE1 (week 6): Discuss and agree grades with mentor p.87 and 88 Final summative Assessment grade to be agreed with Link Tutor

4. Role of Mentor in assessment Monitoring and assessing trainee’s progress throughout the Foundation phase and SSE1 through regular observation, debriefing and target setting. Checking trainee’s evidence against the Standards for both phases Assessing the trainee against the Teachers’ Standards p.87 and 88 SSE1 Interim stage Week 3 Confirm grades for all standards at this interim stage. Discuss with trainee and identify Cause for Concern if necessary via Link Tutor End of SSE1 Week 6 Confirm grades for all standards, discuss with trainee and Link Tutor Link tutor agrees summative grade p.87 and signs off paperwork

5. Role of Link Tutor Link between Partnership Schools and Brunel University Weeks 1-5 – Visit school and carry out lesson observation + feedback – Review progress of trainee with mentor – Identify if cause for concern & agree action plan – Ensure assessment procedures for final weeks are clear Weeks 5-6 – Assess trainee with mentor and agree final summative grade p.87 – Complete assessment paperwork

6. Feedback and formative assessment issues for mentors Encouraging self review and evaluation in your trainee Engaging in constructive evaluation Providing information and knowledge Affirming worth and positive features Recognising and dealing with feelings Assertively challenging actions and ideas Promoting independent development
