First thing: Let’s take the first 10 minutes of class today and update your “Moodle” account. –UPLOAD ALL ASSIGNMENTS ! If you are not done an assignment, but you are probably not going to finish it submit it so I can at least mark what you have. –Almost anything is better than un-attempted or “0”.

Marketing Stats: There are 31.6 million year-olds in the U.S., the largest generation ever. U.S. Census Bureau, 2000) Teens are exposed to an estimated 3,000 ads a day. (Adbusters) 65% of U.S. teens have TV sets in their own rooms. (Kaiser Family Foundation)

Marketing Stats: 98% of U.S. teens reported going online last year (2011). (Teen Research Unlimited) Last year, U.S. teens spent an estimated $105 billion and influenced their parents to spend an additional $48 billion. (Teen Research Unlimited) In 1998, U.S. companies spent nearly $200 billion on advertising. Worldwide ad spending is estimated at $435 billion. (Advertising Age and the United Nations Human Development Report, cited in Klein)

Is Seeing Believe: The human senses. –How do we understand the world around us? –8:00mins into Part #2 –Complete

Thought Experiment: Choose a favorite ad or music video and write a brief analysis or description. –What are the messages? –Are the messages the same as the product(s)? –What techniques are used to convey the messages? –Who is the target audience and how do you know?

Product Launch: Your Mission –In this project you will be challenged to develop a concept or re-promote an existing item so it can be sold by any ONE store at Dartmouth Cross. Pick a single store from Dartmouth Cross to capture a specific demographic and design a marketing campaign for your product around that. –The project will require completion of three separate activities:

Design a company Logo: Once you have determined what product or service you would like to offer create a company logo which will promote this product. Our overall goal is to create a full page magazine ad to promote your product.

To do: 1) Complete the market research phase of the product. (Yesterday’s worksheet) 2) Begin to create your company logo 3) Start developing a full-page advertisement for your product.
