What Influences Parenting? Personal Influences The kind of person you are The experiences you have had Qualities and attitudes within you Personality Traits Patient, outgoing, understanding, compassionate, etc. Parent’s personality = strong impact on children Feelings About Children Do you like them? How should they spend their early years? What are your opinions about what and how they learn? What behavior is appropriate/inappropriate?

What Influences Parenting? Parenting Values What’s important to you for good parenting? Is financial security high on your list? How important is spending time with your children? Parenting Goals What kind of parent do you want to be? What kinds of children do you want to raise? Having clear goals keeps parent’s on track for active “parenting”
