Using a 3D visual aid effectively during the demonstration speech LEARNING TARGET: I can effectively use visual aids during my demonstration speech. Tips to make your speech a success!

Let’s Brainstorm: Write down TWO tips for how to use visual aids effectively (on the sticky note in front of you) Then, post them on the projector screen when finished.

0 Tip Number 1: Make sure everyone can see the visual aid. 0 Show the elements you are talking about AS you talk about them. 0 Stand facing your audience. 0 Move to different areas of the room to help your audience view it in detail 0 Allow enough time for the audience to see the visual aid. 0 Tip Number 2: Conceal props until you need them, as they might distract your audience’s attention. Tips for using 3D objects as visual aids

Tips for using 3d visual aids continued 0 Tip Number 3: Visual aids should be big enough so that everyone in the audience can see clearly. 0 Tip Number 4: Prepare well and PRACTICE before you use any visual aid. Many possible problems can come up in a presentation. Be sure you can handle any props easily before you get up to speak. Ensure the visual aids can be easily shown to the audience without distracting you or your listeners.

What this video… 0 What could this student have done better with her use of visual aids? 0 What did the student do well with her use of visual aids? 0 How did this student elevate her presentation by going above and beyond? 0

Ways to elevate your demonstration speech. What can I do to go above and beyond? 0 If you can, get audience members doing it. 0 Bring in props to have the audience try! 0 Make handouts which summarize the steps in the process, that include diagrams or photographs which illustrate key details. 0 This will ensure that people understand and that your grade thrives!

For each of your presentation steps, please brainstorm how you will apply the tips you learned today to your presentation. Write down in your packet

Video Reflection 0 You will be videotaped during this demonstration speech 0 You will then watch the video and critique yourself discussing your progress. 0 1) Identify a strength you have in public speaking 0 2) Identify one weakness you have in public speaking 0 3) Write three public speaking goals for the rest of the semester
