2 listening Listening is the ability to accurately receive and interpret messages in the communication process. There are 3 basic steps to listening: Hearing means listening enough to catch what the speaker is saying. Understanding means taking what you heard and interpreting it in your own way. Judging means taking what you understand and making sure it makes sense.

3 Tips for being a good listener
Give your full attention to the speaker. Make sure your mind is focused. Let the speaker finish before you begin to talk. Let yourself finish listening before you begin to speak. Listen for main ideas. Ask questions. Give feedback.

4 speaking Speaking requires being able to express your ideas and views clearly, confidently, and concisely, speaking fluently, and adjusting your information so the audience can understand.

5 Tips for being a good speaker
Be clear and concise. Vary your tone, pace, and volume to enhance the communication and encourage questions. Persuade and negotiate. Back up your points with logic. Show understanding to those you disagree with. Make a speech in front of the audience. Present your message in an in interesting way, using videos to grab your audience attention. Ask for help when needed. Asking for help can give you a closer relationship with the speaker because you are showing interest in their topic and showing you would like to know more.
