Background Information Five lunch monitors total. Two lunch monitors are responsible for four classes. Each monitor makes minimum wage and works 2-3 hours a day. School adopted PBIS (Positive Behavior Interventions and Strategies) last year.

Situation: Cafeteria Behavior Students have trouble getting through the line in a timely manner. The students frequently want to change their order when they are in line which slows down the line. Students are rude to the cafeteria workers and the lunch monitors.  The cafeteria is loud and messy.  Monitors say there are not enough of them to sufficiently deal with the number of children.

Previous Interventions Principal’s presence in the cafeteria. Time-out table for behavioral issues. Raffle tickets for students with good behavior.

School Improvement Team Meeting Invite a representative from the lunch monitors to discuss the problem at SIT meeting. Concerns are charted. Possible solutions are brainstormed. Groups take possible solutions and agree to research them. Return to SIT in 2 weeks.
