Manifest Destiny Dream of a nation stretching from Atlantic to Pacific Ocean “Divine Mission” to spread liberty and democracy across continent John O’Sullivan coined the phrase: “Manifest Destiny” Clearly apparent or obvious destiny to overspread and possess the whole of the continent
