Global Issues Project Paper

Part I:  Pick 1 topic that is a current global issue.  Pick 1 specific area/country where this topic is relevant today

Part II  Research your topic by finding information from articles, books, interviews, etc.  Make sure that the information is within 10 years old. For example, the sources of information can be from 2007, but the information has to apply to the issue you are discussing currently in your paper.  Create an outline of your information that has all of the components that you will eventually put into your research paper.

Part III: Research Paper Paragraph 1: Overview of problem: 5-8 sentences  Do not start with: “The topic of my global issues project is….”  What is the problem? Where does it exist? When did it begin? What people or groups are directly involved?  Use specific names, dates, and locations.  Research at least 5 different facts that relate to your issue

Paragraph 2: Expert different perspectives: (5-8 sentences)  Introduce 2 expert/group views/perspectives on the issue. What is each view?  Briefly mention why these people are experts in the field  Cite the sources for each view  Do these experts agree or disagree? What do they agree or disagree about?

Paragraph 3: Possible existing solutions:  How have the experts/others associated with the issues suggested fixing the problem? What makes the suggestions different?  If the issue is solved, how was it solved?  What are predictions for the future? Will solutions stay successful?

Paragraph 4: Barriers to existing solutions:  What human, environmental, and or geographical barriers stand in the way of fixing the problem, or threaten the solution’s future?  Based on your research, which expert/group has the stronger case?

Paragraph 5: Ways to address the barriers  Given what you have learned, what do you think would be the best sustainable solution to the problem and why?

Works cited – must have a minimum of 3 sources (3 books/reputable articles)  Use MLA format (look at the MLA example paper)  The source must be referenced in your paper  The sources MUST be reliable –  NO Wikipedia  Stick to using.org,.edu,.gov, .com only if a reliable news sources (BBC, CNN, etc.)
