2. Topic Research Select a science topic for later investigation. (Examples: magnetism, buoyancy, absorbency, temperature, surface tension, decomposition, etc.) Be sure to have teacher approval before beginning the research piece (See list of suggested topics) Go to the library to select at least two books on your topic. Investigate your topic on the World Wide Web.

3. Taking Notes Think of questions that can’t be answered with a yes or a no. Look for answers to your questions about your topic in the references (using the table of contents, the index, and illustrations). Pick out key words from the reading. Reread the sentence or paragraph and think about what it means. Write down the most important information in your own words.

4. Drafting Your Research Paper Writing an Introduction Hook the reader’s interest (use a question, use an interesting fact). Tell what your report is about. Informational Paragraphs All paragraphs must have a topic sentence describing what the paragraph is about. In your own words, include facts from your research.

5. Drafting Your Research Paper Concluding Paragraph Summarize what you found out about your topic. Include an important idea about your topic. Relate what you learned to your own life experiences. (How does it affect you on a day to day basis?) Bibliography An alphabetical listing of books, articles, and other sources that you used when researching your topic.

6. Final Copy of Research Piece Typed, Double Spaced Title Page Bibliography (Minimum of one page in length)
