1. ROUGH DRAFT RESEARCH PAPER CP English: Logan

2. DUE DATES Your typed rough draft will be due at the beginning of class Monday, April 11th. It is a project grade worth 100 points, the same amount as your outline was worth. The final draft will be worth 300 points. (We will work on that later).

3. REMINDER 2. This research paper, because of its importance and the time and effort it is requiring, is the largest grade you will receive in this class! All of the parts together equal a total of 625 points. Note: If you have gotten behind on turning earlier assignments in, it is up to you to try and make those up for part credit and to come talk to me if you are feeling lost. The outline will greatly help you succeed on this next step, the rough draft.

4. EXPECTATIONS: Since your final draft must be 2--4 full pages, your rough draft must be 1.5 pages long PLUS your works cited page. This 1.5 pages should be pure content with your works cited stapled to the back. **Tip: Since the purpose of the rough draft is to take risks and get feedback on your initial writing, I can help you more if you put real effort into this 1.5 pages of your rough draft.

5. FORMAT The rough draft must be typed in 12 point Times New Roman and double spaced. I will not accept hand--written drafts at all! Do not try and use up lines by increasing spacing, stretching the headings, etc. You should try and use your three sources in the rough draft. (If you aren’t using all three in the rough draft, you likely will have trouble using all 3 sources in your final draft). As we have been practicing in your outline, you MUST use proper MLA citation for quotes and paraphrases in your draft! Remember, this is a research paper, so every topic sentence you have should be followed up with research evidence and then your explanation of that evidence.

6. SPECIFICS The outline format that you used previously should set up the organizational pattern of your paper. So, if there’s a number or roman numeral for it on the outline, you should include that in your paper. So, you should use the outline format to help you make sure you have AT LEAST 5 paragraphs in your FINAL DRAFT. Your rough draft should begin with your introductory paragraph and then go on as far as you want to carry it out following the outline format as long as it is 1.5 pages in length.

7. MORE SPECIFICS My suggestion is to work hard in class to revise your outline a bit first and decide what it is missing and then use it as your guide to typing up your paper. It is the bare--bones of your argument. You will want to add in extra evidence to prove your points and extra transitions between sentences and to introduce quotes to make it all flow into paragraph format.
