Welcome to Cambridge Histories Online This unique historical reference compendium allows instant access to the renowned texts of the Cambridge Histories series. All the available volumes are grouped into topics, making it quick and easy to search and browse through an array of historical subject areas. The extensive bibliographic referencing and other leading functionality, enhances usability and makes this resource ideal for any type of historical research. With access to the most up to date and authoritative scholarly content, Cambridge Histories Online is an invaluable resource, for undergraduates, graduates, lecturers and researchers alike.

Search using the quick or advanced search options. From the home page you can decide how you start using Cambridge Histories Online, either browse the volumes, view the newest additions and updates, or go straight to ‘My Histories’ to view your workspace. 1 2 Home Page Once logged in, your institution/individual name and subscription details will be listed on the home page

1 2 Browse Page Browse the volumes by subject. Just click the title to view all the volumes in this area. Refine your browsing by showing all the series volumes within a subject area and drill down further to the individual volumes. Show or hide all the volumes. Browse by title, chapter or author

1 Enter a query using the ‘Go to’ option… Or scroll through the full list of chapters in the collection alphabetically… 2 Chapter title, book title, author name and publication year listed for each chapter. 3 Chapter Browse Browse by title and author as well

Advanced search Boolean, proximity and stemming Searching is supported. Fill in one or any of the field with search terms: Term appearing in the full text Author or editor first or last name Full or partial title Subject keyword Publication date ISBN Term appearing in abstract/extract Limit searches to single or multiple collections. Use the Advanced Search to make more specific searches across the content…

Search results are displayed in order of relevance… Go directly to the chapter or entire book. Click on author name to view full list of attributed content. Refine search by collection or series to narrow search results Ability to control the number of hits per page, jump to another results page and save the search. 5 Search Results

Words matching the search term within the chapter extract are highlighted for easy reference. Where the chapter has been reached directly from the search, links to previous/next back to search results appear. Full Chapter extract and link in PDF format, with switchable hit term highlighting. 1 Quick search option allows searching across all the content or the volume only. Part of the Volume Help with how to cite the content and the option to or download citation in, RIS, text or CSV format. 2 Full table of contents with current chapter highlighted. 3 In some cases the volume is broken into parts, to allow you to quickly navigate to the part of the volume that is most relevant

Chapter Overview Chapter extract and link to full content in PDF format. 1 Click forward and back through the chapters of the book. 2 Link to different sections within the full chapter in PDF format. Full referencing, openURL and Cross Ref linking available

The new bookmark has now been added to a list of saved chapters in the designated workgroup. The corresponding notes will appear under the chapter link. Date of creation is also noted for easy reference. Recent and saved searches are added to a list. Each saved search may be re-run, edited or deleted. A list of created and subscribed workgroups is displayed at the bottom of each profile in alphabetical order. In addition to each personal profile, any number of workgroups may be created to share with students, colleagues or friends, or simply for own reference… My Histories (Overview)

Any title may be appended to the workgroup during set-up. An introductory paragraph providing an overview of the workgroup or instructions to members may also be added. To subscribe to a workgroup, each new member should log in to their own personal profile, click ‘Subscribe to a Workgroup’ and enter the passcode provided by the workgroup creator.
