 Periods are used at the end of a declarative or an imperative sentence.  Periods are used after an abbreviation.  Periods are also used after the initials in a name.  Example) I went to the store to buy water Add correct punctuation.  Example) Dr Flax is a dentist Add correct punctuation.

 Commas are used to separate in a series of three or more and to separate adjectives of equal importance in front of a noun.  Example) We bought water carrots and bananas at the store. Add correct punctuation.  Example) The brown soft furry dog jumped in my lap while I was watching TV. Add correct punctuation.

 Commas are used to set off parts of addresses, place names, and dates.  Example) We went to New York City New York over the summer Add correct punctuation.  Example) I was born on January Add correct punctuation.

 Commas are used to set off words of direct address and parenthetical expressions. A noun in direct address is the name of the person being spoken to. A parenthetical expression is a word or a group of words inserted as a comment not necessary to a sentence.  Example) Martha it is time to leave for school. Add correct punctuation.
