Reconstruction Came after the Civil War A time when states were trying to rebuild their economy, government, and land from the effects of the Civil War.

Because some did not agree with the new laws of the U.S., some states passed Jim Crow laws to enforce segregation (separating races). The Ku Klux Klan emerged as a group seeking to force segregation and keep African Americans from taking part in politics. Black Codes were created to suppress African Americans. Laws were similar to slave laws. Some laws forced African Americans to work for Anglo Americans This was a time of great change as Texans made their way into a new era.
