A technology plan for the Bastrop Independent School District

 This presentation will discuss… BISD’s current technology plan according to our district’s Improvement Plan. How this plan can be improved Trends for the future

 Where do we stand? In all four Key Areas of our STAR chart we were rated “Developing Tech” for the school year at Bastrop High. “Campus Statewide Summary” “Campus Statewide Summary”  “Developing Tech” shows to be the average for the first 3 areas but is below the average in Area IV.

 Over the past 3 years, our scores have steadily fallen. In the school year, BHS classified as “Advanced Tech” in all areas except Key Area III. In the school year, BHS classified as “Advanced Tech” only in Key Area III. This past year, as seen earlier, we classified only as “Developing Tech” in all four areas.

 Areas in which we can improve these scores: Continue implementing our one-to-one plan Increase professional development in technology Develop a strong infrastructure

 BISD’s current plan 1:1 computer ratio  By 2014, every student grades 5-12 will have their own laptop computer, and every 4 th grader will have a palm pilot.  Currently in the 6 th year of this plan  How we can make this plan better This is a very costly plan, and needs a better policy for lost, stolen, or pawned laptop computers.

 BISD’s current plan The current plan calls for all teachers in the district to include technology training in their staff development.  How we can make the plan better We need to include guidelines as to what the teacher needs to learn, as well as a minimum amount of hours needed for the teachers to take this seriously.

 BISD’s current plan: We have made some great changes that have gone toward improving our infrastructure  Skyward  Student information system keeps the entire district on the same page. Attendence, grades, disciplinary measures, special education status, and immunizations are all kept on file.  Lightspeed Filtering Systems  District’s internet content filter which keeps students safe from pornography, predators, etc.  FirstClass and ePals  FirstClass is the district system for staff, but also uses ePals for students.

 The future of BISD We depend on technology now more than ever. Therefore, it is crucial that we pay attention to what is new in technology. According to The Horizon Report, we are on track as we are already implementing Collaborative Environments and Online Communication Tools into our classrooms. In the next few years, to stay up to date we will need to begin implementation of Mobile Devices, Cloud Computing, Smart Objects, and Personal Web (The Horizon Report, 2009).
