PBIS P – Positive B – Behavior I – Intervention S – Support

What is PBIS? PBIS works to positively reinforce school wide expectations and reward students for their efforts. Purpose: Decrease discipline issues, increase learning.

Why are we implementing PBIS? PBIS replaces an undesired behavior with a new behavior or skill Alters environment Teaches and rewards appropriate behaviors Models and reinforces positive social behaviors

Why is PBIS Important? Teaching behavioral expectations and rewarding students who follow these expectations are more positive means to acquire acceptable behaviors than waiting for misbehavior to happen. Purpose: Establish a climate in which appropriate behaviors are the norm.

Incentives Incentives are rewards given for appropriate behavior. Example of incentives include: – Noble Knights (Student of the Month) – part of the Crown Jewels of CMS – Royal Acts of Kindness Recognition – Carroll Cash to exchange for prizes/activities – 9 week incentive/dance – Monthly classroom competition for the most stickers on their shield

Computer Lab Come prepared and ready to learn – Always remember your username/password – Stay focused and listen – Bring any needed materials Make Responsible Decisions – Use only assigned websites/programs – Be gentle with equipment – Stay on task – Raise hand if you have a question – Respect others by using only your equipment Stay Safe – Keep hands, feet, and materials away from wires and screen – Refrain from running or horseplaying – Keep chair legs on floor and use proper typing position

Classroom Come prepared and ready to learn – Be on time for class – Bring all materials to class – Have a positive attitude towards schoolwork, peers, and teachers Make Responsible Decisions – Follow school rules – Be respectful of self and others – Be accountable for yourself Stay Safe – Keep hands, feet, and objects to self – Keep room neat and free of clutter – Walk – Stay in your seat until you are dismissed

Restrooms Come prepared and ready to learn – Stand quietly in line while you wait – Be attentive to when it is your turn – Leave school items outside the restroom (pencils, notebooks, books, etc.) Make responsible decisions – Stay quiet – Listen to the bathroom monitor – Flush toilets – Wash your hands – Keep walls clean Stay Safe – Keep your hands and feet to yourself – Refrain from standing on the toilet seats or hanging from the stalls – Turn off water – Keep floors clean – Put all paper in trashcan

Hallway Come prepared and ready to learn – Walk quietly and with a purpose – Stay on the right in a straight line – Return to class promptly Make responsible decisions – Be quiet – Treat others and their property as you would like to be treated – Give others proper space – Keep the floors and walls clean Stay Safe – Always walk – Look forward – Keep hands, feet, and objects to self – Walk around others and obstacles

Cafeteria Come prepared and ready to learn – Know your lunch number – Stand in line quietly and be attentive – Get all needed items the first time through the lunch line Make responsible decisions – Be respectful – Talk quietly to people around you – Leave all food items in the cafeteria – Clean up after yourself Stay Safe – Keep hands and feet to yourself – Keep legs out of aisles – Line up in an orderly manner – Walk to your destination – Clean up spills

Gym Come prepared and ready to learn – Wear appropriate clothing for PE and Sports – Be attentive Make responsible decisions – Follow directions/rules – Show good sportsmanship – Leave the game in the gym Stay Safe – Keep hands, feet, and objects to yourself – Refrain from use of gym, candy, food, or drinks while in the gym – Report incidents to PE/Sports teacher

Playground/Recess Come prepared and ready to learn – Wear proper attire – Bring necessary playground equipment Make responsible decisions – Keep up with your items – Use good sportsmanship – Follow game rules – Line up with your class with the whistle blows Stay Safe – Report dangerous situations or behaviors – Keep hands and feet to self – Refrain from playing with sticks, leaves, and creatures – No playing or walking in or through the woods

Bus Come prepared and ready to learn – Have your bookbag and school materials ready to get on the bus – Be at the bus stop on time – Know your bus number and how you are to go from school Make responsible decisions – Always wait for the bus driver’s signal, then cross in front of the bus – Sit in assigned seat – Leave all food and drinks in your bookbag – Be respectful of the people in your seat Stay Safe – Keep hands and feet to self – Talk quietly to people around you – Stay in your seat until you are dismissed

Media Center Come prepared and ready to learn – Bring library books and other needed materials – Be on time Make responsible decisions – Use your time wisely – Choose appropriate books for your reading level – Turn in books on time – Be respectful of books, the media center, and others – Use book markers when selecting books Stay Safe – Stay in assigned areas – Keep hands, feet, and objects to self
