1 The new frontier of the TETRA access network Attilio BASILE Area Manager

08-Nov-06The new frontier of the TETRA access networkSlide 2 SUMMARY 1.SCENARIOS 2.WIRELESS FIRST IN M.C.O.E. 3.REQUIREMENTS of PROFESSIONAL USERS 4.MULTIPLE TECHNOLOGY 5.DISTRIBUTED CONVERGENCE

08-Nov-06The new frontier of the TETRA access networkSlide 3 SCENARIOS  Mostly, we can live with the errors that occur within our operating environment. We can restart, work around the problem, or even stop awhile. Unfortunately these responses are not always acceptable for the following reasons:  The failure endangers human lives.  The failure causes great economic damage.  The inability of the operators to carry out their tasks would be socially irresponsible.

08-Nov-06The new frontier of the TETRA access networkSlide 4 SCENARIOS  The distinguished feauture of this type of operating environments is that their operating mission is the reason why the relevant (human) operating organization was created for.  Failure within this type of operating environments is unacceptable. Such environment of operations are mission critical and are referred to as Mission Critical Operating Environments (MCOE)

08-Nov-06The new frontier of the TETRA access networkSlide 5 SCENARIOS

08-Nov-06The new frontier of the TETRA access networkSlide 6 WIRELESS FIRST in MCOE Wireless is the only way to provide the 3 E’s in communications for MCOE: Voice 话音 Data 数据 Video 视频  EveryBody  EveryWhere  EveryTime On a spatial-teme-individual need basis

08-Nov-06The new frontier of the TETRA access networkSlide 7 WIRELESS FIRST in MCOE  Threats, hazards and needs of professional users are growing in complexity, frequency, scale and scope. This is particularly evident in the area of ICT capabilities.  The field experience of professional users has made clear the need for next-generation ICT capabilities which provide for wireless broadband data access, interoperability, increased security, technical inter- operability, user transparency over myriad technological platforms and applications.

08-Nov-06The new frontier of the TETRA access networkSlide 8 REQUIREMENTS  Voice + Broadband data  Secure and interoperable capabilities  Multiple users with multiple applications  Self-establishing and self-healing network nodes  IP-based mobile networking  Robust management and control systems  Flexible existing infrastructure dependence  Dynamic and flexible radio configuration  Real-time digital voice, video and sensing  Clear photos, complex graphics and drawings files  Enhanced telemetry information (including bio-info)  Maintain integrity/security of national networks

08-Nov-06The new frontier of the TETRA access networkSlide 9 MULTIPLE TECHNOLOGY

08-Nov-06The new frontier of the TETRA access networkSlide 10 MULTIPLE TECHNOLOGY  Backbone: based on Optical Fibre, Radio Links, WiMAX PMP and Satellite technologies  Access: via TETRA, GSM-R, Analogue Simulcast/Conventional, LAN, WiMAX, WiFi, and Satellite technologies, with extensions to sensor networks, and meshed and ad-hoc networks.  Gateway: to public networks (PSTN, GSM, UMTS, Internet), private networks (VPN) and special communication systems

08-Nov-06The new frontier of the TETRA access networkSlide 11 MULTIPLE TECHNOLOGY  Future integrated systems’ network access will be available via TETRA solution, analogue trunked solution, 2G and 3G solutions, WiMAX, LAN and Satellite to guarantee the use of the most suitable information highway to satisfy specific operation requirements, while gateway to public networks (PSTN, Mobile, Internet), private networks (VPN) and special communication systems is managed at their distributed network center level.

08-Nov-06The new frontier of the TETRA access networkSlide 12 DISTRIBUTED CONVERGENCE  Audio (TETRA, Analogue radio, GSM etc)  Messagges (SDS, SMS, etc)  Automatic Vehicle/Person Location  Data Base Access  Sensors

08-Nov-06The new frontier of the TETRA access networkSlide 13 DISTRIBUTED CONVERGENCE  Control, management and command/decision’s head of the new frontier’s integrated systems for professional and emergency organizations are based on a distributed-intelligence (resilient) approach where operation decision makers at different level communicate with individuals, groups and all network users remotely manage and control equipment, vehicles and sensors (position, alarms) regardless of the type of communication technology utilized, including hub to both external public and private networks and to their own networks and renders them interoperable and able to communicate with each other.
