Presentation transcript:

Geometry is the second of the four math credits that you will have in high school. Because this is an honors course, you will be expected to be more mature and to perform on that level. This course requires you to do all homework assignments and study to be successful. If you are not willing to prepare for class and you establish this as a habit, you will be asked to attend tutoring before or after school. Geometry is a special branch of mathematics. It may be unlike anything you have studied before. Keep an open mind and this year you will learn to think about things in different ways and hopefully appreciate the geometry that is all around you! I am looking forward to a good year with you. Please give this class your best attempt everyday and don’t give up! You may find this a refreshing change from algebra. Geometry is about thinking and making connections. Supply List Grading Policies: You are expected to complete all assignments - honestly. A habit of not completing assignments could result in a grade much lower than you desire. Your grade will be calculated based upon 4 criteria:  Daily Work - 20%  Quizzes - 20%  Tests – 50%  TNReady Prep – 10% You will be expected keep up with graded assignments and compare it regularly with PowerSchool. Access via Make up your missed work when absent - ASAP! Exam Exemptions: There is a school-wide exemption policy for final exams. You will be exempt if you have: (1) an A average and 5 or less absences. (2) a B average and 3 or less absences. (3) a C average and 0 absences. There will be an end of course test: TNReady Notebook: Mrs. Karisa Matusek Room 103 Class Expectations: 1.Daily attendance, attention, & participation. 2.A geomeTRY attitude, a good work ethic, and determination when it’s needed. 3.Come to class prepared every day. 4.Time each day to study and review lessons. 5.$3.00 calculator fee (or your own calculator) A 3-ring notebook with notebook paper and 6 tabbed dividers. Graph Paper Compass, Ruler, and Protractor Pencils (pens for “pretty” notes) Cell Phone Policy: Cannot be used or visible during class instruction or practice times unless I grant specific permission (for educational uses). Cannot be out during tests or quizzes. Cannot be used in place of a calculator. Extra Credit: Eagle Bucks Every student will receive 60 Eagle Bucks to use in my class each quarter. There is menu of options on the page for the value of each extra credit option as well as the penalty menu. Want extra Eagle Bucks? You can earn 20 extra Eagle Bucks by meeting these three criteria: (1) perfect attendance for the quarter (2) no tardies for the quarter and (3) no zeros for the quarter. Please bring your 3-ring notebook everyday. Use the following names on your notebook tabs for organizing your work: Interactive Study Notebook (ISN) HW, CW, & GW Quizzes & Tests Constructions Transformations TNReady Test Prep

Taken from tn.gov/education under “parent guide” TNReady is the state's new and improved TCAP test for math and English language arts in grades It will provide you better information about your student's progress. The new TNReady TCAP tests are designed to assess true student understanding, not just basic memorization and test-taking skills. TNReady will measure students' understanding of our current state standards in English language arts and math. TNReady is more than just a new TCAP. It is a new way to assess what our students know and what we can do to help them succeed in the future. Just as we take our children to the doctor for their annual check-ups, TNReady offers parents, students, and teachers with an academic check-up each year to ensure all students are moving forward, on track to graduate from high school, and prepared for success in postsecondary and the workplace. We’ve included additional details in this guide to answer questions about TNReady and how it will impact your student this school year. You can find more information on our website at: tn.gov/TNReady. We know that in college, technical schools, and in most jobs, communication is done electronically. It is the way of our world. We must prepare students for their future, which requires comfort with technology. With that in mind, TNReady will be taken online. Encourage your student to begin using digital devices everyday in low stress situations. Don't wait until testing begins to help your student learn how to use a laptop, tablet, or desktop computer.
