BY: JORDON BIORGE Quite the Squeak and Change your Pads

Save money and change your own brake pads In this presentation I will teach you how to easily change your own brake pads by using these five simple steps: 1. Jacking your car, and removing your tire. 2. Unscrew the caliper mounting bolts. 3. Removing caliper from rotor and taking brakes out of caliper housing. 4. depressing your brake caliper. 5. And reassembly

Jack and Tire removal Locate a part of your frame to set the jack under, and make sure it is near the tire you are removing. Loosen lug nuts about two turns while on the ground, this will help when you get it in the air and attempt to take the wheel off. Use the jack to lift the car until tire is about an inch off the ground. Finish taking the lug nuts off and remove the tire.

Removing caliper mounting bolts To remove the caliper mounting bolts you will need either a wrench or a socket. You will find the bolts on the back side of your caliper. Once you locate them, start unscrewing them until they come all the way out. (they are usually extremely long screws)

Remove caliper from rotor and pads from caliper housing To remove the caliper from the rotor and caliper housing simply pull strait out. And to remove the pads from the caliper housing, try to pull out with your hands. But if they are tight then you may have to use a flat head screw drive to pry them out.

Depressing your brake caliper pistons You need to depress your brake caliper pistons in order for your new brake pads to fit correctly. In order to do this you will need one of your old brake pads and a fairly large C-clamp. Fit your old pad over pistons and position your C-clamp so that it startles the caliper. You will need to retighten every ten seconds or so until the pistons are flush with the surface of the caliper.

Reassembly To reassemble the caliper, start with placing the new brake pads inside the caliper housing. Next place the caliper over the the brake pads so that it fits correctly into place. After making sure everything is lined up, screw in the caliper mounting bolts until tight. Next you will need to place your tire back on and screw the lug nuts as tight as you can while still hoisted. Lower your car and retighten the lug nuts until tight. Pump your brakes until they your brake pedal feels firm and normal.
