CONTENT Based on an iconic Rococo painting by Jean-Honoré Fragonard, also called The Swing Depicts a young woman in a pink dress in a garden on a swing The woman is watched by two men - one pushes her from behind a tree, while the other lies in the beneath her to look up her skirt

MEDIA/MATERIAL He created the artwork using a mannequin, cotton costume, swing, 2 slippers, 2 ropes, oak twigs and artificial foliage The woman is dressed in African print fabric, but in Fragonard’s painting she was wearing silk and lace

SCALE/PURPOSE The sculpture is 330 x 350 x 220 cm or 10.8 x 11.5 x 7.2 ft Lots of green, red, and orange He wanted to create a 3D replica of The Swing by Fragonard

STYLE/FORMAL ELEMENTS The style is “Late Baroque” or rococo The mannequin’s skin is dark, and her dress and shoes are made out of brightly colored African print Dutch wax printed cotton The mannequin is presented without her head as a reference to the beheading of the aristocracy during the French Revolution and the redistribution of power and land
