StopPreviousNext 4 How to use this workbook This workbook should be used with a trainer. The trainer could be a friend or someone from your school, library, neighbourhood house or other organisation. Websites on the Internet change often. The text and pictures in this workbook may be different from those you see on the Internet. A circle is used to show you which part of the picture to look at.

StopPreviousNext 6 Introduction Facebook is a website used for social networking. Social networking means using a website to connect with other people. Facebook lets you connect and share information with friends. If you have signed up for Facebook you will be able to find friends, send messages to them and share photos with them. It is free to sign up for Facebook.

StopPreviousNext 7 This workbook shows you how to get started with Facebook. You will learn how to:  Go to the Facebook website Sign up for Facebook Sign in to Facebook See the Welcome page Decide what information you share Upload a profile picture Add profile information Find your Facebook friends Confirm a friend request See your Wall Post your status on your Wall Post photos on your Wall Like and comment on posts Log out of Facebook

StopPreviousNext The Facebook website You can find the Facebook website on the Internet Move your mouse over the address bar. Do 1 click. You will see a website address surrounded with blue Type in this website address Press the Enter key on the keyboard. 8

StopPreviousNext Sign up for Facebook To use Facebook you will need to sign up. This means you will become a member. It is free to sign up for Facebook. You will need to have an account. 1.Go to the Sign Up area on the Facebook website. 10

StopPreviousNext Move your mouse over the box next to First Name. Do 1 click. Type your first name. Move your mouse over the box next to Last Name. Do 1 click. Type your last name. Move your mouse over the box next to Your . Do 1 click. 11

StopPreviousNext Type your address. 11. Move your mouse over the box next to Re-enter Do 1 click. 13. Type your address again.

StopPreviousNext Move your mouse over the box next to New Password. 15. Do 1 click. 16. Type your new password. 17. Move your mouse over the arrow next to Select Sex. 18. Do 1 click on Female or Male.

StopPreviousNext 21 A screen will pop up. It will tell you that you have successfully confirmed your account. The Welcome page will appear.

StopPreviousNext 22 Sign in to Facebook Each time you use Facebook you need to sign in. Use your address and your password that you entered when you signed up for Facebook Go to the Facebook website. Move your mouse to the sign in area at the top right of the screen. Move your mouse over the box under . Do 1 click.

StopPreviousNext Type in your address. Move your mouse over the box under Password. Do 1 click. Type in your Password. Move your mouse over Log In. 10. Do 1 click. Do not tick the box next to: - Keep me logged in Remember this computer may be in a public place. 23

StopPreviousNext 24 You will see the Welcome page. You will see Welcome to Facebook and your name. You are now signed in and ready to use Facebook.

StopPreviousNext Welcome page When you first sign in you will see 6 sections on the Welcome page Search your for friends already on Facebook Upload a profile picture Fill out your profile information Activate your mobile phone Find people you know Control what information you share We will look at some of these sections now. 25

StopPreviousNext Control what information you share On Facebook you can choose what information you would like to share with others. The privacy controls on Facebook let you decide what to share and who you would like to share with Go to your Welcome page. Scroll down and look at the section Control what information you share. 26

StopPreviousNext Move your mouse over the words Control what information you share. Do 1 click. You will see this screen. You can read about privacy here. You can edit your privacy settings from this page. 27

StopPreviousNext 28 Edit privacy settings You can also edit your privacy settings from the Account menu Move your mouse over Account at the top right of the screen. Do 1 click. You will see a menu Move your mouse over Privacy Settings. Do 1 click.

StopPreviousNext 29 You will see your current setting Move your mouse over Friends Only at the left of the screen. Do 1 click. Move your mouse over Apply These Settings. Do 1 click.

StopPreviousNext 30 Your current setting will change to Friends Only. This means only your friends on Facebook can see your information.

StopPreviousNext 31 Upload a profile picture You can upload a picture from your computer on to Facebook. This will help your friends find you Go to your Welcome page. Look at the section Upload a profile picture. Move your mouse over Upload a Photo. Do 1 click.

StopPreviousNext 32 You will see this screen. 5.Move your mouse over Browse. The picture must be no larger than 4MB (megabytes). The picture can be a GIF or JPEG or PNG Do 1 click. Select the folder where the picture is stored on your computer. This might be the Pictures folder. Move your mouse over Open. Do 1 click.

StopPreviousNext Move your mouse over the picture in the folder. The picture will be surrounded with blue. 11. Do 1 click. 12. Move your mouse over Open. 13. Do 1 click. You will see this screen. The picture will start uploading.

StopPreviousNext 34 When uploading has finished your screen will look like this. The picture will be saved in Facebook. 14. Move your mouse over Profile in the top right of the screen. 15. Do 1 click. You can now see your profile picture on your Profile page.

StopPreviousNext 35 Your profile information You can add information about yourself to your Profile. This will tell your friends more about you Go to your Welcome page. Look at the section Fill out your profile information.

StopPreviousNext Move your mouse over Edit Profile. Do 1 click. You will see the Edit Profile page. You will see a list on the left of the screen. 36

StopPreviousNext Add information to your profile We will add information about our favourite television show in the Arts and Entertainment section Move your mouse over Arts and Entertainment in the list. Do 1 click. You will see this screen. 37

StopPreviousNext Move your mouse over the box next to Television. Do 1 click. Type information about a television show you like. For example start typing the word doctor A list will appear as you type. Type in the rest of the title of the television show. Move your mouse over the show you want to add. The title will be surrounded with blue. Do 1 click.

StopPreviousNext The screen will look like this. You will see a picture and the title of the television show. 9.Move your mouse over Save Changes. 10. Do 1 click. You will see a tick next to Your changes have been saved. You can add more information to your profile as you like. 39

StopPreviousNext Follow these steps to see where this information about television shows in your profile Move your mouse over Profile at the top right of the screen. Do 1 click. You will see your Profile page Move your mouse over Info. Do 1 click. You will see the information you have added under Television in the Arts and Entertainment section in your profile. 40

StopPreviousNext Facebook friends A Facebook friend can be anyone that you know such as:  a friend a family member someone you work with a classmate You can find your friends when you are signed in to Facebook. 41

StopPreviousNext Find people you know When you are on Facebook you can find friends who are on Facebook by searching for their name or their address Go to your Welcome page. Scroll down and look at the section Find people you know. 42

StopPreviousNext Move your mouse over the box with the words Enter a name or . Do 1 click. Type in the name or address of the friend you want to find. Move your mouse over the blue search button. Do 1 click. You will see this screen. A list of people may appear with the same OR similar name. 43

StopPreviousNext Find the person you want to add as a friend. The pictures will help you find the right person. Move your mouse over Add as Friend. 10. Do 1 click. The person will need to confirm your request. This means that they agree to be your friend on Facebook. You will see this screen. 11. Move your mouse over Add a personal message 12. Do 1 click. 44

StopPreviousNext Type a message if you want to. 14. Move your mouse over Send Request. 15. Do 1 click. You will see this screen. The request has been sent to your friend for approval. 16. Move your mouse over Close. 17. Do 1 click. You will see this screen. You will see Friend request sent next to the name of this person.

StopPreviousNext 46 A message has been sent asking this person to be your friend on Facebook. The person must confirm your request.

StopPreviousNext 47 Confirm a friend request When someone you know has sent you a friend request on Facebook you will see a notification. This is a message from Facebook. You will need to confirm the request so that you can be friends on Facebook Move your mouse over the notification alert. Do 1 click.

StopPreviousNext Move your mouse over Confirm. Do 1 click. This screen will appear. The friend request is accepted. 48 This screen will appear. If you know this person and you want to add them as your friend on Facebook you can confirm their request. If you do not know this person or do not want them to be your friend on Facebook do not confirm the request. Click on Not Now.

StopPreviousNext Move your mouse over Profile. Do 1 click. On the Wall you will see this friend has been added. You will also see a post confirming you are now friends. You will also see their name and picture in the Friends list on the left of the screen. 49

StopPreviousNext The Wall The Wall on your Profile page is a place to post messages and pictures. When you or your friends post on your Wall all your friends on Facebook will be able to see it. Go to your Wall Move your mouse over Profile in the top right of the screen. Do 1 click. You will see your Wall. 50

StopPreviousNext Your status You can post your status on your Wall. This is a short message about what you are thinking or doing. Post your status on your Wall Move your mouse over the words What’s on your mind? Do 1 click. Type your status. For example I have just joined Facebook! 51

StopPreviousNext Move your mouse over Share. Do 1 click. Your status will be posted on your Wall. Your friends will be able to see it. 52

StopPreviousNext Share photos You can upload and share photos with your friends on Facebook. Photos are posted on your Wall. You can upload one photo at a time on your Wall. Post a photo on your Wall Move your mouse over Photo. Do 1 click. Move your mouse over Upload a Photo. Do 1 click. 53

StopPreviousNext Move your mouse over Browse. Do 1 click. Find the picture on your computer. This might be in the Pictures folder Move your mouse over the picture. Do 1 click. The picture will be surrounded with blue. Move your mouse over Open. 10. Do 1 click. 54

StopPreviousNext Move your mouse over the box Say something about this photo 12. Do 1 click. 13. Type something about this picture if you want to. 14. Move your mouse over Share. 15. Do 1 click.

StopPreviousNext 56 The picture will be posted on your Wall for your Facebook friends to see.

StopPreviousNext Like and Comment People on Facebook can like or comment on messages and pictures. Like You can tell a friend that you like something they have shared Move your mouse over Like. Do 1 click. You will see a thumbs up next to You like this. Your friend can now see that you like the picture that they have shared. 57

StopPreviousNext 58 Comment You can also comment on things that friends have posted on their Wall. This means writing a message about what they have posted Move your mouse over the box Write a comment Do 1 click. Type your comment. Press the Enter key.

StopPreviousNext 59 Your comment will appear next to your name. You can also like and comment on a status that a friend has posted.

StopPreviousNext Log out of Facebook When you have finished using Facebook remember to log out Move your mouse over Account at the top right of the screen. Do 1 click. You will see a menu. 60

StopPreviousNext Move your mouse over Log Out. It will be surrounded with blue. Do 1 click. You will see the Facebook home page. You are now logged out of your Facebook account. 61
