24 th November 2012

The mission of the Fryderyk Chopin Museum is: -to cultivate the memory of the great composer - to make information about his life and work available to a wide audience. The purpose of the Museum is to collect and transfer knowledge as well as to deliver a high quality artistic experience. Innovative forms of exploration will be based on interaction with the audience and the immediate response to the individual needs of visitors.

The new museum is not only a central facility for the Year of Chopin celebrations (2010), but first and foremost institution for the national memory of Fryderyk Chopin. The long term Museum plan is to become an unique European institution linking knowledge with art.

This Museum strives to be accessible museum for all. One of priorities is to adapt the building to the needs of the disabled so that they can have easy access to all exhibitions. The building is equipped with: -ramps, - platform lifts, - a lift and a toilet for the disabled. The lift and platforms provide access to every level of the Museum. There is a special entry to the Museum by wheelchair, below the stairs leading to the main entrance.

Music and soundscapes are treated as key elements of exhibitions, making active visits possible for the visually impaired. Display cases contain a written version of multimedia elements so that the hearing impaired can fully understand the exhibitions. A lot of elements of exhibition making active our visit in Museum (both for young and older learners).

After the meeting we discussed with students to compare their feelings. The group shared their findings and exchanged personal experiences. They agreed that exibition is modern and accesible for all (also for old and disabled people).

Results in terms of learning / teaching pedagogy and IG experiments: All of facilities for the visually impaired were very useful for students. Thanks the interactive, educational form of museum the composer became most fascinating for visitors !

Students remembered the most accesible museums which they visited were: - in Poland: Warsaw Rising Museum, The Benedictine Abbey in Tyniec near Krakow - in Europe- Haus der Musik in Wien

After the visit we walked among the Old Town in Warsaw to continue discussion.

Thank you for your attention !!!
