TRYOUT PROCEDURES During tryouts the following drills, court play, and attributes will be observed and scored: Vertical Jump Test- Athletes will do a standing vertical jump. Forearm Passing (Bump) – Passing to a target using the correct form while moving in a figure-8 pattern around two cones that will be 8’ apart. Each athlete will get 10 balls to pass. Serve Test – each athlete will attempt five serves. Illegal or out-of-bounds serves score no points. Serves may be overhand or underhand, but the form grade will be one point higher for overhand serves. Hitting with approach/down ball– Athletes will hit 5 down balls from behind the 10-foot line from a toss by one of the coaches. Only balls going over the net and hitting inbounds will score points. Athletes will have the option of advancing to hitting off a tossed ball, with an approach during this test. ½ Mile Run - Run 800 meters on the track for time. Score is based on best time. Score out of 10 points is based on best time for grade level.

TRYOUT continued Court Play – 3 on 3, 6 on 6 and drills involving passing, setting, hitting, serve receive, and base and free-ball. Miscellaneous – Other important factors will be observed and scored during the tryouts. Some of these factors consist of effort, coachability, hustle, attentiveness, promptness, teamwork, and ability to follow directions. 100 points are possible for the entire tryout process. 50 points come from 1-5 above, each being worth 10 points. The second 50 points comes from 6 & 7 above. Setting will be looked at as a skill during drills. The coaches will observe and rate each athlete’s form during each of these skill drills. Each athlete will earn a score based upon her performance in each of these categories. Jackie Moore’s teacher web page for 7th grade. If either grade level needs to we will have call back list in smaller groups for before or after school tryouts. All kids who choose to will tryout during the athletic periods every day. 7th grade tryouts will be after school on Monday and in the am the remainder of the week. If you participate in out side of school sports or activities that might conflict with the schedule please notify a coach in writing (email works great) ASAP, before tryouts are completed. If you are in athletics and do not want to tryout for volleyball that is OK. Just come during the class period each day.
