11 BB TEAM LEVELS AND PHYLOSOPHY
To develop individual and team skills to a competitive level in preparation for participation in high school sports. Individual skill level, attitude, attendance, team dynamics and coachability will determine playing time during games. Basketball will have 3 teams for each grade level. A team- Blue B team – Gold C team- White The three levels of teams are designed to allow each athlete to compete at the appropriate level for they’re current skills and knowledge as determined by the coaching staff.

12 BB TRYOUT PROCEDURES During tryouts the following drills, court play, and attributes will be observed and scored: Right and Left-handed Lay-ups. Each athlete attempts right and left-handed lay-ups dribbling from the elbows for 30 seconds. Score is based upon form and number of lay-ups attempted-made in the time limit. (10 points—5 form/5 raw score) Shooting. Each athlete will attempt 5 different shots from any poly spot on the court. Choices will be a free throw, elbow, baseline, 45-degree angle, or 3-point shot (all from both sides of the basket). Score is based upon form and number of shots made. One of the shots must be a free throw. (10 points— 5 form/5 raw score). Advancement for 8th grade may include movements on the court, catching a pass and shooting, or shooting off the dribble. Block Shots- Right and left side banked jump shots at a 45-degree angle to the basket from the block area. Score is based on form and number of shots made in 30 seconds. (10 points—5 form/5 raw score) Dribble Horse. Each athlete dribbles a timed “horse”. Score is based on form and time. (10 points—5 form/5 raw score) Horse for time. Each athlete will run a horse without a ball for time. Score will be based on time and agility. (10 points—5 time/5 agility form).

13 BB TRYOUT continued Court Play –Score is based on knowledge of game and rules, court awareness, hustle, aggressiveness, teamwork, basic overall skills with and without the ball, and control. (25 points) Miscellaneous – Other important factors will be observed and scored during the tryouts. Some of these factors consist of effort, coachability, participation in drills, hustle, attentiveness, promptness, teamwork, being vocal on the court, and ability to follow directions. (25 points) 100 points are possible for the entire tryout process. 50 points come from 1-5 above, each being worth 10 points. The second 50 points comes from 6 & 7 above. Setting will be looked at as a skill during drills. The coaches will observe and rate each athlete’s form during each of these skill drills. Each athlete will earn a score based upon her performance in each of these categories. Those with the highest totals (scores of all categories) will be selected for the 2013 Blue/Gold/ White Teams. All other athletes trying out will be placed in off-season during their athletic classes.

15 Soccer TRYOUT PROCEDURES
Speed/Stamina: Speed is important at high levels of play. You can teach skills and improve speed, but natural speed is an advantage / Being able to sustain mental and physical effort for a long time is also a critical skill for soccer players to develop. Aggressiveness: Players should want to “win the ball.” A player who is tentative to win the ball is at a disadvantage. "Strength on the Ball": This has to do with skill, positioning, the ability to maintain possession of the ball when under pressure, as well as the ability to win possession of the ball from an opponent. The Ability to Play Quickly: Better teams will play fast and put the ball handler under pressure quickly. We are looking for players who can play fast by making quick, correct decisions under pressure. Passing to Open Space and Movement off the Ball: Being able to pass to open space (instead of just passing to feet), anticipating passes to open space and "movement off the ball" are critical at higher levels. Players who can play this way have an advantage over those who can't. Passing to the feet is important, but being able to see and use space allows a team to have a much faster, more fluid, and more creative attack. Leadership: Great players have a “never say quit” attitude and model good decision-making. After losing possession, players should be quick to make smart defensive decisions as opposed to “giving up.” Players should praise and encourage their teammates, rather than tear down. Being “Coachable”: The best of soccer players are those who are humble enough to accept coaching. Skills can be taught to players open to learning, but those unwilling to learn will only hurt the team. Academic Excellence: Players will be expected to maintain passing scores in all classes to be eligible.

16 SOCCER Skill Test- worth 15 points each 800 (1/2 mile) run for time.
2. Cone Dribble and lofting test- Students will dribble through a row of cones, display turning with the ball and crossing the ball in the air to a goal area. 3. Shooting test Students will be given 5 balls to shoot on the goal from a variety of distances and circumstances (PK, moving ball, self touch and shot) Game Play- 30 points Coachability- 25 points Team Skill Accepts Coaching Passing on the ground Hustles Lofted passes Leadership Passing to open space Team Player Crossing ball while running Self Control/Attitude Attacking School wide leadership Finishing ability Being responsive to Coaches Desire to score (Takes on defenders, makes things happen) Ability to break away Playing the Midfield Field vision (Able to anticipate) Distribution skill Ability to “create” (Develops/sets-up plays) "Defenders Mentality" (Steps in front of offensive player, does not back down.) Clearing the Ball Recovery/Support
