An online service is a service delivered from the internet.

For example; Online shopping Entertainment Search engines

Commerce- What is commerce? Commerce is things such as online banking, online retail and advertisement.

This would benefit you because instead of going to the shop to browse, you can just click onto the website and look at ALL the stock they have and order it online to collect in store or even get it home delivered if you have no way of collecting it.

Real-time information- What is real-time information? This is a provider that gives you information about what's happening now and updates.

This gives you the latest news online. This would be good because if you are out and about and need to know the local news or weather then ITV’s news will be there. Also if you don’t have access to a television you can look online. You can also get other information from it.

Communication- What is a communication service? This is a provider that gives you access to talk and interact with people online.

This lets you interact with your friends by posting comments on their stuff, such as status’ and pictures. You can also post your own status’ and photos. This would help because it’s a free way to interact over the internet and you can make it private so only your friends can see your profile. If you know someone that lives a long way away then you can contact them through facebook. If you get any strange people trying to talk to you then you have the option to block them.

Entertainment- What is an entertainment service? This provider gives you access to video services, gaming sights and T.V catch up.

This enables you to post and watch videos online. Any video you want, you will most likely be able to find it on YouTube. Its free and easy to find. If you have an account you can comment on peoples videos, like or dislike and report them if they are inappropriate. As well as videos of people and other random things, you can listen to music, watch the music videos and learn the lyrics. Before you upload videos you can edit them and the length can be as short or as long as you want.

Business- What is a business service? This provider gives you access to online video chats and business networks.

Skype allows you to video chat with friends via iPhone, android or any other device with a camera/web cam. You need 3G or Wi-Fi to be able to use it but downloading it is free. This would be great if you are bored and have nothing to do you can interact with your friends and its like you are actually with them.

Virtual Learning Environment- What is a virtual learning environment? This provider gives you access to online websites that you have your own log in area, such as Moodle.

Each pupil has an online user area where teachers can set work and homework on it and they can then look online to see what they have to do. This benefits you as instead of getting paper copies its online. The only downside is that if you do not have access to a computer and the internet you cannot use it.

Education- What is an educational service? This provider gives you access to online websites which give you education, such as mymaths.

Download services- What is a download service? This provider gives you access to online apps and websites to download things such as iTunes and music downloaders.

You have to have a login detail for iTunes and it gives you the opportunity to buy or download songs straight onto your phone. This is an app that comes with apple products.

Government- What is a government service? This provider gives you access to online websites that supply you with online tax returns and e-voting.
