Being Drug Free

Resisting Peer Presure Is everybody really doing it? 85% of teens have actually never tried marijuana Over 90% of teens have never tried cocaine

Commitment To Drug Free Be fully dedicated to not using any sort of drugs Avoid places where drugs maybe used Avoid spending time with people who use drugs If you have friends that do use, warn them of the dangers and explain why you have to stop being around them Enhance your life!!!!

School Efforts Drug-free school zones: areas within 1000 feet of schools and designated by signs within which people caught selling drugs receive stiffer penalties Drug education classes, clubs, and exhibitions Stiff penalties for those students caught using drugs

Community Efforts Drug watches: organized community efforts by neighborhood residents to patrol, monitor, report, and otherwise try to stop the drug selling and abuse To avoid urge to use: participate in community activities that promote the health of the community

Becoming Drug Free Warning signs of Drug Use: – Gets drunk or high regularly – Lies about when they use drugs – Constantly talks about using drugs – Stops participating/caring about people/things that were once important – Changes in sleeping/eating habits – Sudden loss/gain of weight – Seems withdrawn or depressed – Gets in trouble

Becoming Drug Free To help a friend/ family member with their problem – Identify specific sources of help – Talk to person when they are sober; express your affection and concern – Listen to response and be ready for anger – Discuss sources of help

Getting Help Drug abuse is treatable!! Treatment Centers – Outpatient : No medications involved; idividual and group counseling – Short Term Treatment: can include residential, medication, and outpatient treatments – Maintenance therapy: for heroin addicts; includes medication – Therapeutic Communities: residences for people with long history of abuse

Make a Campaign Get in groups Make up an anti-drug campaign for Northern Vance Include a description of your campaign, mission statement, slogan, logo, and at least two different forms of advertisement for your campaign These will be presented to Mr. Creasemen so make them good…maybe yours will actually be used!!!
