Influence of Peers and Family People are more likely to use tobacco if their friends use it. Some teens use tobacco in order to fit in with their friends. Some teens use tobacco because they think it makes them seem cooler or more mature. Some teens smoking will help them feel more confident around others. Lesson Home

Be prepared to be asked if you want to try to tobacco. Use the S.T.O.P. strategy: Say "no" firmly. Tell why not. Offer another idea. Promptly leave. Practice saying no in an assertive style that shows you are serious but also shows you respect others. Speak in a firm voice with your head up. This will tell others you mean what you say.
