Gateway Regional: A Choice School Accepting Applications for the School Year

School Choice Defined The School Choice Program allows non-resident students to enroll at Gateway at no cost. The individuals accepted through the School Choice Program become actual full-time students at Gateway for the remainder of their high school experience and receive a Gateway diploma upon the fulfillment of all graduation requirements.

Gateway Defined In partnership with our students, families, and communities, Gateway Regional High School will educate all students by providing motivating and challenging learning experiences that prepare them to achieve the New Jersey Core Curriculum Content Standards at all grade levels. Our safe setting of mutual, supportive respect develops ethical, productive citizens who will contribute to the local and global community.

Application process

Getting Started You should have already notified your home district of your intent to participate in school choice by may 2nd. If you need a notification letter, we have copies available. Your home district will notify you if you may participate by May 9th. Waiting for notification from your home district WILL NOT delay Gateway’s application process.

Completing the Application Applications are available on Gateway’s website, through the Guidance office, and at the Main Office. File a complete application with Gateway by May 16th. Be sure to include any IEP, 504, or other paperwork if applicable.

Application Acceptance You will first be notified as to whether or not your application was accepted by May 27th. You have until June 10th to submit the “Notice of Intent to Enroll” to Gateway. Should your name be on the waiting list and a space opens, you will be notified by June 17th and the “Notice of Intent to Enroll” is due by June 24th.

Frequently Asked Questions

Transportation Transportation cost (or aid in lieu of transportation) is paid by the home district. Speak with your District Business Administrator. Students must live at least 2.5 miles but not more than 20 miles from the Choice school to qualify for transportation.

Selection Process Completed applications will be evaluated for completion and space availability. Should there be more applications than spaces available, a randomized lottery system will be used. A waiting list will be established in the event a seat becomes available later.

Varsity Athletes Varsity Athletes attending a Choice school and intending to participate in the same sport(s) must sit out the first 30 days of the season in accordance with NJSIAA rules.
