SCSGC Workforce Development Goals To provide undergraduates with hands- on research experiences while working on NASA-related scientific and engineering projects. To increase the number of students pursuing NASA-related science and engineering professions.

SCSGC Workforce Development Programs NASA Center Internships Research Experience for Undergraduates (REUs) Geospatial Institute (GSI)

SCSGC NASA Internships Goals: To expose undergraduates to the exciting research environment at NASA centersTo expose undergraduates to the exciting research environment at NASA centers To increase participation of SC students in research studies at NASA field centers. To increase participation of SC students in research studies at NASA field centers.

SCSGC NASA Internships Competitively Awarded Since 2003, we have supported 17 studentsSince 2003, we have supported 17 students $87,100 in funding$87,100 in funding Students have participated in programs at Ames, JPL, Goddard, Wallops, Langley and Glenn.Students have participated in programs at Ames, JPL, Goddard, Wallops, Langley and Glenn.

Research Experience for Undergraduates (REUs) REU Goals: –To advance NASA’s research agenda. –To raise the profile of NASA in the region, which will in turn raise the overall interest in aerospace related studies on SCSGC-REU campuses.

Four REUs 2005 and 2006 Bioastronautics (Medical Univ. of SC) (2 years) Microgravity - Biological (Wofford College) Advance Materials (Clemson University) $190K in REU awards 22 student participants from all over the US

The Geospatial Institute (GSI) GSI Goals: - To train students to understand, integrate, and master geospatial technology. - To increase the number of students from a broad range of disciplines to pursue geospatial careers that are vital to NASA's Science Mission Directorate.

The Geospatial Institute Geospatial Summer Institute at the College of Charleston $70K GSI award 15 student participants from all over the US Student remote sensing research projects
