NASA Educational Workshops (NEW) National Aeronautics and Space Administration

NASA Educational Workshops (NEW) An exciting and unique professional development opportunity for 7-12 educators who teach technology, science, mathematics, and/or geography, and Pre-K and elementary educators.

Goal To use the NASA mission, facilities, human resources, and programs to provide exposure and experiences to educators to support the enhancement of knowledge and skills, and to provide access to NASA information in technology, science, mathematics and geography.

NEW offers individual and team workshops: 1.Individual educators are competitively selected and assigned to a NASA Field Center and participate in a two week workshop; 2.Educator/Administrator teams are competitively selected and assigned to a NASA Field Center to participate in a one or two week specialized-focused workshop;

Program Description An invaluable professional development experience where educators have opportunities to see and learn real-world applications of technology, science, mathematics and geography from top NASA scientists, engineers, technicians and educational specialists.

Workshops are developed at the PreK-4, 5-8 and 9-12 grade levels. Over 4,500 educators have participated in this unique program since 1984.

The educational materials and activities presented in the workshops are related to the five NASA Strategic Enterprises.

National content standards in science, mathematics, technology, and geography are incorporated into the workshops, and educators are supported in their effort to align instructional approaches to reflect both national standards and state frameworks.

Educators have the opportunity to network with their colleagues and learn effective ways of integrating the information and experience acquired during their workshop into their classroom instruction.
