Logical Approach Logic Model:

Logical Approach Literature Review: - Dr. Eric L. Garland, a clinical researcher and psychotherapist, notes that “there is mounting empirical evidence of the role of mindfulness [meditation] in reducing stress and improving clinical outcomes across diverse conditions [including] recidivism. - Following up the initial Transcendental Meditation project, researcher Dr. Maxwell V. Rainforth found a major drop in recidivism rates among released inmates who had participated in the program, with a 43.5% reduction in their chance of recidivism. - Finally, in the initial study cited by the two prior articles, Dr. Catherine R. Bleick sampled parolees who had participated in the program, noting a significant reduction in recidivism, especially compared to other programs that aimed to accomplish the same (such as education programs)

Logical Approach Works Cited: - Garland, Eric L. “Mindfulness Research in Social Work: Conceptual and Methodological Recommendations.” Social Work Research (2013): Oxford Journals. 19 Dec Web. - Rainforth, Maxwell V. “Effects of the Transcendental Meditation Program on Recidivism Among Former Inmates of Folsom Prison: Survival Analysis of 15-Year Follow-Up Data.” Journal of Offender Rehabilitation (2003): The Haworth Press. 12 Oct Web. - Bleick, Catherine R. “The Transcendental Meditation Program and Criminal Recidivism in California” Journal of Criminal Justice (2002): May, Web.

Assessment Transcendental Meditation is not significant in reducing prisoner recidivism rates through reduction of stress.

Assessment Upon controlling for other variables (gender, level of school completed, and language spoken at home), Transcendental Meditation was shown to still not be significant in reducing recidivism through reduction of stress among inmates.
