Presentation transcript:

Set Shot Hand Positioning Error: The ball travels vertically instead of high and toward the target. Correction: Extend arms and transfer body weight towards the target. Contact the ball at its lower back, not at the bottom. The player should make sure he extends his arms and legs faster for additional force if balls are not reaching the target. Preparation Execution Follow Through

Under Arm Serve Error: The ball goes up more than forward and does not travel over the net. Correction: Tell the player to hold the ball at waist level or lower, contact with the ball just below centre back, and swing the their arm forward towards the net. Then transfer weight to the forward foot. Error: The ball does not have enough force to make it over the net. Correction: The player should not swing their holding hand, they must hit a stationary ball, making contact with the heel of their open hand. Preparation Execution

Dig Error: A player misjudges, contacting the ball with either the hands or even the upper arms instead of the forearms. Correction: Emphasise moving the feet into a balanced position. The ball should contact the player above the wrist and below the elbow. Have the player establish a low position and extend arms forward away from the body when contacting the ball. Error: A players arms are too high when contacting the ball and arms follow through above the shoulders. Correction: Let the ball drop to waist level before contact. Ready Position Hand Position Execution

Over Arm Serve Error: The toss is inconsistent, which makes for an unreliable and uncontrolled serve. Correction: Check that the hand holding the ball is in front of the hitting shoulder. Have the player practice throwing the ball up without hitting it. Throw should be 12-18 inches above fully extended arm. The server should be making contact with the heel of the hand in the one o’clock position. Remind the server to swing their hitting arm as fast as possible. Ball Toss Preparation Toss Execution

Blocking Error: Blocks are bouncing out of bounds. Correction: Blocker must be parallel to the net. Hands extended above the net facing inwards towards the court. Blocker should jump immediately after the attacker has jumped to improve timing. Ready Position Hand Position Ready Position Preparation Execution

Smash Error: A player repeatedly hits the ball out of bounds or into the net. The player seems to lack body control. Correction: The player must make contact with the ball at the peak of their jump. Player must be focused on the set and keep their eye on the ball throughout their approach. Elbow should be away from the body and palm of the hand should make good solid contact on the ball. Approach Execution
