EVENSON EXTRA September 26, 2014 South school has begun a program called “Paw Pride” to recognize students who show good character anywhere at anytime within the school day setting. Any teacher or supervisor who catches a student showing respect, responsibility, caring, fairness, trustworthiness or citizenship may give a child a Paw Pride slip which not only recognizes their actions, but enters them into a drawing for a small prize at the end of each week. Their “caught ya” slip also is on display on the Paw Pride bulletin board! It’s a wonderful program to focus our students on showing good character throughout the day. Math Fun In Math, as you already have seen, we completed Unit 1 and took our first test. Please know, Part A are skills that need to be mastered by the end of the unit. This is the most important section of the test. If your child didn’t do well on this part, it is crucial that together we continue to support him/her and practice these areas. Part B the skill set has already been introduced, but we are still working on those skills and haven’t quite mastered them just yet! However; giving support to them in these areas is important as well. Currently are working on units, names for numbers, and ten frames. Message from Mrs. E Things to Remember… Thanks Avery for being our first Top Banana!! This week, Ben is showing off his items and we are guessing how many poker chips are in the estimation jar!! So fun!! Hats On Day…Friday, September 26 th. Students are to bring in at least $0.50 and they are allowed to wear a hat all day at school. The money is being donated to help Children and Families with children who have cancer!! Let’s all participate!! Such a great South Senator Sponsored Event! Other News 9/26 Hats on Day 10/3 October book orders are due and it’s SRIRIT DAY!! 10/6 Parent Volunteers will start coming into our classroom. 10/7 Picture Retake Day…your pictures should be coming home soon. ** Please send in a set of ear buds or headphones if your child does not have any at school yet** Our focus the last few weeks was retelling or recounting the main events and details of a story. We have introduced temporal words to help us with this task (first, next, last). We also discussed the central message or theme of various stories. Some of our favorites included, A Cake All For Me, The Salamander Room, Pigsty, Where Do You LIVE?, School Long Ago, and various poems like “The Circle of We” and “Over the Neighborhood.” Writing Traits Last week, we interviewed a friend and wrote a narrative about them. Students were paired with somebody, conducted an interview, and took that information and prepared a narrative. We took them through the writing process. They had so much fun with this activity. Then, they presented their piece. We are working on sharing in front of our classmates. This week, we are writing about our TOWN! We are working on the vocabulary words neighborhood, and families. We talked about different homes and wrote about where we live in our readers/writers notebook. It is part of our Units of Study and Social Studies. Language Arts
