We learned about Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and his dream for people to be treated equally. We explored this idea by looking at M&Ms and discussing how they are different on the outside but when you bite into them they are the same.! We read a story called The Color of Us and wrote in our journal what we were the color of. Some of us said we were the color of toast, rice, cereal, sand and more. We learned continued to learn about addition and subtraction. We talked about how to be a good friend to others and what it feels like when someone is being a good friend to us. Theme for the Week: Bears Vowel friends: “ai” says a, like in rain Sci/Social Studies: Hibernation and Space Math: # 11-15 Popcorn words: “all” and “how” *****Gummy bears -Please send in gymmy bears to donate for this week if you are able.

2 More News…. Valentines Party and Cards Our party is on February 12 th. Parents are welcome, but not obligated to attend. Valentine cards are great way to practice name writing! Use this experience to practice writing first or first and last names. HOWEVER, PLEASE DO NOT ADDRESS VALENTINE CARDS TO A SPECIFIC STUDENT, AS CARDS WILL BE PASSED OUT DOWN A LINE IN ORDER TO TAKE LESS TIME AWAY FROM OUR FUN PARTY! Again, please have children only sign their own name. Also, it is easiest to pass out cards that are unisex. Valentine bags will be made at school so there is no need to send one in. THANK YOU for helping make this experience FUN and EDUCATIONAL! There are 21 students in your child’s class how all Report Cards and Conferences Report cards are coming home today. Please sign and return the yellow envelope. Keep the report card and use it to guide your practice or extend skills at home. Also, in the report card envelope is the parent/teacher conference sheet. If a conference was requested, please select your top 3 times and send it back ASAP. If you would like a conference for any reason please return the form as well. Then I will assign a time based on the times you chose. Classroom Needs: -Hershey Kisses -Clorox Wipes -Snacks -Shaving Cream -Small Prize box toys -Playdough Things to Practice Practice identifying rainbow words in the newspaper. Use a highlighter to find them. Have your child count some of the coins from your change jar. Identify them and their value. Sort them and make change. Have your child sound out the items on your grocery list. Sort candy by color or size Add and subtract using hearts or candy Sound out notes to people you love or Valentine cards Sound out to write 3 sentences about flowers Write your first and last name on Valentines Sort your Valentine cards by character – make a graph Sound out to read Valentine cards you receive Use tally marks to keep track of nice deeds you do Keep Reading!
