EARLY LEARNING Strong Start Centers  Program for Parent (caregiver) and child  Children aged 0-5 years  3 Hours a day  Centers at 8 Schools.  Outreach Centers at 5 Malaspina Early Learning Program  3 mornings a week, for College Heights Families Ready, Set, Learn  Program for 3-5 year olds  Pre Kindergarten skills focus on pre-literacy

ELECTIVE COURSES: Students must earn at least 28 elective credits. GRADUATION TRANSITIONS Students must earn 4 credits for Graduation Transitions OVERALL TOTAL: 80 credits * Of the 80 credits for graduation, at least 16 must be at the Grade 12 level, including a Grade 12 Language Arts course. Others may be required or elective courses.

TO EARN A DOGWOOD DIPLOMA, INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS MUST MEET ALL GRADUATION REQUIREMENTSGRADUATION REQUIREMENTS Such international students (who have not been educated in either English or French in the previous two years). :  Language Arts 10, Science 10 and a Mathematics 10 either course enrolment or challenge (provincial exam)or an equivalency assessment (no provincial exam).  must also earn credit for Graduation Transitions through a school- supported course or process.  must be assessed to determine if all the Graduation Transitions Prescribed Learning Outcomes have been met, regardless of the grade level at which they enter a British Columbia school. Schools should assist students in finding appropriate work experience or community involvement that does not conflict with the terms of their legal status in Canada.

No Equivalency review or Challenge process is permitted:  Language Arts 11  Language Arts 12  One of Science 11 or 12  One of Mathematics 11 or 12  Social Studies 11 (or Civic Studies 11 or BC First Nations Studies 12)  Planning 10 For Socials Studies 11 (or Civic Studies 11 or BC First Nations Studies 12) and Language Arts 12, students must write the Required Provincial Exams. Other Graduation Program courses may receive credit through an Equivalency review or Challenge process.

BC EQUIVALENCY Procedures Schools will award credit through Equivalency following the procedures of the Board of Education. For the purpose of determining Equivalency, comparison of courses may be based on factors such as:  comparison of learning outcomes  comparison of general subject matter  comparison of depth or breadth of coverage of subject matter  comparison of assessment methods, instruments, and standards To be deemed equivalent, there should be a match of approximately 80% or more of the learning outcomes to either a Ministry-developed or board authorized Grade 10, 11 or 12 course. In order to receive credits through Equivalency, students must provide the appropriate documentation as proof of successful completion of the course.
