6 C’S OF COMMUNICATION BY- ANA KHAN

COMMUNICATION Communication is an essential part of being human, helping us establish relationships, express needs and wants, and live together in society. The words you choose, the methods you choose to communicate, and when you choose to interact with others can all shape how your coworkers and your boss views you as an employee, and not always for the better.

Communication skills are important in at least two fundamental ways Communication skills are important in at least two fundamental ways. First, effective communication enhances a couple's ability to understand one another. Effective communication, for example, allows individuals to more clearly express or articulate their needs and desires, which in turn, makes it easier for a partner to be responsive to those needs.

Verbal Communication Verbal communication include sounds, words, language, and speech. Speaking is an effective way of communicating and helps in expressing our emotions in words.

Further verbal communication is divided into four types which are, Intrapersonal Communication Interpersonal Communication Small Group Communication Public Communication

Nonverbal Communication Nonverbal communication manages to convey the sender's message without having to use words. ➜ This form of communication supersedes all other forms because of its usage and effectiveness. Nonverbal communication involves the use of physical ways of communication, such as tone of the voice, touch, and expressions.

➜ Symbols and sign language are also included in nonverbal communication. Body posture and language convey a lot of nonverbal messages when communicating verbally with someone.

Written Communication ➜ Written communication is the medium through which the message of the sender is conveyed with the help of written words. ➜ Letters, personal journals, e-mails, reports, articles, and memos are some forms of written communication.

Visual Communication This form of communication involves the visual display of information, wherein the message is understood or expressed with the help of visual aids. For example, topography, photography, signs, symbols, maps, colors, posters, banners and designs help the viewer understand the message visually. ➜ Movies and plays, television shows and video clips are all electronic form of visual communication.

➜ Visual communication also involves the transfer of information in the form of text, which is received through an electronic medium such as a computer, phone, etc.

1. Completeness - The information or the message should be complete 1. Completeness - The information or the message should be complete. Complete in terms of the facts, figures if any, should answer the basic Why, When, Where of the subject of message. Incomplete information nothing short of a imminent disaster. 2. Conciseness - The information you want to transmit should be concise. Noone has the patience nor the time to listen to large volume of information unless its something specifically needed in great detail. So you should try to keep your message as concise as possible.

3. Clear - Clarity of information is of prime importance 3. Clear - Clarity of information is of prime importance. Message should be simplified and easy to understand. You may use illustrations, examples to make your message clear. Demos help a great in making your message clear. 4. Concrete - Your information should have maximum possible facts to support your message and minimum assumptions. Very often we have to move forward based on certain assumptions. Lets say if you need to catch a train scheduled at 10 am in morning, you assume that the train will not be cancelled hopefully and leave the station at 10 am and so you leave home in advance.

5. Courteous - Your message should be delivered in a positive manner 5.Courteous - Your message should be delivered in a positive manner. Remember in a debate you always have two views, For and Against. Both make their statements without abruptly offending the other. Be polite and humble in delivering the message. 6. Correctness - Your message should be correct to the best of your knowledge and the spruce of information should be reliable. These six C's should definitely help you in becoming a good communicator.
