Rwanda – Musanze Profile Genocide in million killed (Former leadership based on exclusion) After 1994: Current governance ≠structures demonstrated better leadership with principles of equity and strategic socio- economic development policies The Economic Development and Poverty Reduction Strategy II (EDPRS II), is a medium term development that lays out a four year ( ) development plan to move one step closer to reaching Rwanda vision 2020 objectives. The Vision 2020 seeks to fundamentally transform Rwanda into a middle-income country by the year ,537,222 People out of 26,338 Km2 (Rwanda) For 1,729,927 people/North Province 368,563 people/Musanze District 31,970 People Musanze/Sector 3,256 Ruhengeri Institute of Applied Sciences 90% dependent on agriculture activities to survive. ≠

Profile cont. Agriculture is the lifeblood of 91% of the population in Musanze District. One Tow big industries: Pyrethrum & Wheat Factory Touristic district with Volcanoes National Parks home to 800 Mountain Gorillas.

One Small Enterprise 1SE 1. How do youth in Musanze envisage their Future? 2. What kind of community do they want to see and become? 3. How can they raising their voice to fight unemployment using their available resources? 4. What are the transformations needs to impact positively their community? These are main questions the project named: ‘’1SE’’ would like to address.

1SE cont., Overall Objective: The 1SE aims at enabling youth to strengthen Entrepreneurship skills by making them aware of use available resources to sustain their livelihoods Specific Objectives : 1. Bring together and encourage youth to be innovative, creative and focus on existing opportunities in Food processing, Tourism and Handcarts. 2. Encourage youth to be self dependent by creating profit organization and install a culture of saving for their future; 3. To initiate cooperative with local, national, regional and international Enterprises to strengthen the project sustainability.

1SE Solution One Tourism Sector: Arts and Crafts via a dynamic website Available market: Travel and tourism Agencies: Airlines, Hotels, Motels, car rental Companies Website users: tourists, business, Leisure, events, sports and other travellers, Creating jobs to approximately 250 youth by 2016

1 SE Solution 2: Food Processing sector: Available market: Hotels, Motels, schools, public and private instituttions Create jobs for approximately 350 youth by 2016 Creating jobs to 115 Youth in Musanze
