College What test do you need to take for admission to the school you want to attend? SAT or ACT – 4-year or 2-year colleges COMPASS – Technical College

College (Admissions Tests) Have your scores sent directly to the schools you are interested in attending If you are planning on being a student-athlete, you must also send your scores to NCAA Students should register Cost to register is $65

College (Admissions Tests) Schools will have different admissions score requirements Minimum admission test scores are often listed on the admissions Webpage of each school (Undergraduate Admissions, first year students). Remember, these are minimums. Schools often only offer admission to students whose scores are well above the minimum required If you have not taken one of these tests, do so ASAP!

College (Admissions Tests) Cost: $54.50 Cost with Writing Portion: $56.50 Cost without Writing Portion: $39.50

Technical College Will usually accept SAT or ACT scores if you plan to take one of these tests Use the COMPASS test for admissions and placement (Contact the Technical College to schedule the COMPASS test. Free for high school students)

Military Required Test ASVAB – military Each branch of the military will have its own score requirements See a recruiter to arrange to take the ASVAB and discuss career options and test score requirements

Applying to College Begin the application process now. Research admissions requirements for colleges and majors or programs of study available Consider cost, location, size of school Make a list of 4-5 schools you would like to attend Keep up with application deadlines Create a resume to give to teachers you will ask for letters of recommendation and for use in completing applications Create a (professional) account/address

College Visits Consider participating in a college tour or visiting colleges you would like to attend Seniors may have an excused absence for a college visit with prior arrangements and approval

Apply Apply to schools by the required deadlines Request transcripts through gacollege411 or Ms. Favors For letters of recommendation from teachers, give the teacher(s) your resume and make the request at least two weeks prior to the date you need the letter.

Apply GPA Each college/institution may calculate GPA differently, but most only use academic classes and foreign language classes in the calculation. Additional weights are usually only given for AP or College Classes. See WWCHS handbook for information about determining class rank and high school honors (pp. 24 – 26)

Remember Although colleges will be making admissions decisions prior to your graduation, you must send your final transcript. College acceptance is contingent upon your graduation and receipt of your final transcript. Stay focused. Talk to your advisor or see Mrs. Watson if you have questions
